Thursday Links (1/8)

Just a few quick links for today...

-- Guerry Clegg thinks there's still plenty of talent left at UGA for the Bulldogs to turn in a fine 2009.

-- Lost in the shuffle of Stafford and Moreno's announcements yesterday was the utter debacle at Georgia Tech for the hoops team.

-- The Detroit Free Press can't help but wonder if Matthew Stafford knows what he's gotten himself into.

-- Stafford's decision to leave won't have a major effect on recruiting, according to the AJC. (BTW, Gotta love the new Michael Carvell logo with the AJC's recruiting coverage. Lookin' good, Mike!)

-- 960 the Ref chats with baseball coach Dave Perno.

-- A UGA alum could take over Pete Van Wieren's spot in the Braves' broadcast booth.

-- The Bainbridge Post-Searchlight catches up with Nick Williams, who played primarily on special teams this year, but could be in line for a larger role in his sophomore campaign.

-- I'm a couple days late with this, but Kyle King hands out his grades for the 2008 UGA season.

-- A congressman asked Nancy Pelosi to cancel today and tomorrow's sessions so he can go to the Florida-Oklahoma game. After she refused, Tim Tebow said he planned to use it as motivation during tonight's game. (OK, I made that last part up.)

-- A former UGA assistant got the axe from the New Orleans Saints today.

-- Sure people are sad about Stafford and Moreno leaving, but THIS is friggin' tragic.

-- And finally, here's why it's OK to hate sports writers: This guy DID NOT vote for Rickey Henderson for the Hall of Fame. He did, however, vote for Matt Williams. (Not to mention Tommy John and Don Mattingly.) And worse, he offers no explanation for why he didn't vote for Rickey. I mean, you can argue Rickey wasn't the nicest guy, but neither was Tim Raines (who he voted for) or, for that matter, Matt Williams, who has been tied to steroids.

For what it's worth, I think Henderson, Tim Raines, Bert Blyleven, Allen Trammell and Andre Dawson would make my non-existent ballot. I'd probably consider a vote for Mark Grace for sentimental purposes. I couldn't be more on the fence about Dale Murphy. If he had just managed to have two more decent seasons...

Ricky says he would have voted for Ricky. Wait, what is Ricky running for?
