Six Georgia football players were named to the 2008 All-Southeastern Conference Coaches Team, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday.
Sophomore tailback Knowshon Moreno, senior receiver Mohamed Massaquoi and sophomore linebacker Rennie Curran were first team selections while junior quarterback Matthew Stafford, freshman receiver A.J. Green and senior punter Brian Mimbs represented Georgia on the second team.
Moreno, one of two unanimous All-SEC selections, has averaged nearly six yards per carry en route to a 1,338-yard rushing season through 12 games making him just the second player in Georgia history to record more than 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons (Herschel Walker, 1980-83). Moreno, who also has 27 receptions for 329 yards, has scored 17 touchdowns his season, the most by a Bulldog since Garrison Hearst s 21 in 1992. He leads the SEC in scoring with 102 points and rushing with an average of 111.5 yards per game.
Massaquoi is second in the SEC with 910 receiving yards for an average of 75.8 yards per game. He became the first Georgia receiver to have three 100-yard games in one season since Terrence Edwards in 2002. Massaquoi, who has eight touchdowns, recorded a career-high 180 receiving yards against Georgia Tech.
Curran is second in the league with 109 tackles including 11 for loss. He is looking to become the first Bulldog to lead the SEC in tackles since 1995 when Whit Marshall had 128. He has led Georgia in tackles in nine games this season including five games with double-digit tackles.
Stafford leads the conference with 3,209 passing yards, 267.4 passing yards per game and 3,240 total yards. He has passed for more than 300 yards three times this season including a career-high 407 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns against Georgia Tech.
Green leads the SEC with 951 yards receiving for an average of 79.2 yards per game. He has hauled in 55 passes including eight touchdowns and is looking to become the first Bulldog to lead the SEC in receiving since Brice Hunter in 1994. For freshmen, he would be the first to lead the league in receiving yards per game since 1999.
Mimbs is second in the SEC with an average of 43.5 yards per punt with 16 downed inside the 20 and 11 of 50 yards or more.
The SEC individual award winners will be released on Wednesday followed by the SEC All-Freshman Team on Thursday.
