How Healthy is Joe?

What Joe Schad gets wrong yesterday, he makes up for today. Joe Cox is still figuring to start tomorrow, but there are a lot of good quotes from him in this story that underscore that he simply isn't at 100 percent -- and was far from it last week.

How come we are just hearing about all of this now? Something does not seem right.

I agree, this is a little too fishy to me. If a hobbled Joe gives us a better chance to win than a 100% healthy Logan, I am fairly concerned about the season, in general. I hope what Joe said about not affecting football is truthful. I guess we'll find out, but it looks like it's time to rev up the Aaron Murray "machine" and get him ready to go.

If Cox was as bad off last Saturday as this article makes out, isn't it somewhat irresponsible for him to have not removed himself from the game. I understand he has waited so long to start but that is not justification for leaving your teammates in the lurch. Just a thought.

I think it's more the responsibility of the COACHES to not play a sick and injured QB. Joe is a Damn Good Dawg and would never pull himself out of the game.

I think that we need to keep things in perspective. CMR could not play Gray as he did not get any reps last year with the practice squad. This is the first year that Gray has had reps at practice on a regular basis. Cox at 75% is still be more effective than Gray due to his experience at running the offense.

Calm down folks. It is also the job of the coaches to do what's best for out team. And giving a RSoph his first real playing time in a hostile environment versus a top 10 team is not smart. Gray will probably get a large percentage of playing time tomorrow since a) it's at home b) it's against a lesser opponent and c) if we happen to have the luxury of a lead.
You always try to protect young qb's by giving them every chance to succeed. The best chance for LG to succeed is breaking in versus SC at Home.

I agree. If an unhealthy Cox is better for us than a healthy Gray, we might be in more trouble than I thought. If we have to take our lumps at QB this season, then let the freshman(men) get his feet wet.
But here's hoping Joe plays great vs Carolina and all this talk subsides.

Agree completely about with the idea that its the coaches job to put the qb on the field that is best for the team. That being the case it makes you worry about the state of the backups. Not overreacting here, I don't think 1 game tells the whole story, Cox should start if he is healthy and the best option; however if we lose 1 or 2 more games there is really no point in losing with a senior at qb, prep for next season.

Looks like rivals was half right about Cox. I had a feeling something was wrong with his shoulder because he has little zip on the ball. Now that the cat is out of the bag, look for opposing defenses to go after the shoulder when he runs or is trying to pass. One thing is for sure, you cannot count on his arm to bring us back if we are behind.

Battle as he might it is only a matter of time before he is going to give way to either Gray or Murray.

David, thanks for the link. What does the whole situation feel like to you? Something just feels a little...off...about the whole thing.

So if we come out with Gray at QB, White at TE, and Green and Brown split out wide, I propose we call this "The Earth Tones Package” TM. I would appreciate your efforts, David, in helping to get this to catch on. I would be willing to cut you a percentage on any future merchandising.

John From Texas

This has to be a ruse, set up by Richt and Cox. No way Cox would admit the injury on record the day before Georgia's make-or-break game.

How did Shadd get the interview?

Joe certainly is learning a lot about dealing with the media this week. This is his second pr gaffe of the week. After CMR wont answer a direct question about Joes shoulder he tells all to ESPN....ouch. And this is after he tells the fans to go suck eggs if they didnt like the dead arm performance in Stillwater.

OK, so let me get this right. Dude had the flu, was taking IVs before the game AND had a bum throwing shoulder and he plays the entire game?! I'm with Boz. What does that say about the backups? I can't imagine a 100% Logan Gray could not have been more effective than a clearly sick and injured Joe Cox.

I think the coaches are simply wanting to see what Joe can do (or not do) early on. It won't take very long to decide to leave him in or not, and that's probably the wise move. Let the game settle in first, then if Logan needs to take over, he can.
