Georgia Golf Kicks Off

From UGA Athletics:

The Georgia men's golf team will begin the fall portion of its 2008-09 schedule this weekend at the 20th edition of the Carpet Capital Collegiate.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 3 in the Golf World/Nike Golf preseason coaches poll, will play Friday through Sunday at The Farm in Rocky Face, near Dalton.

Georgia will open with a lineup of seniors Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell, sophomores Harris English and Russell Henley, and freshman Patrick Reed.

Mitchell, English and Henley were 2008 All-Americans, while Harman earned All-America honors in 2006 and 2007. Reed will be making his collegiate debut after he and Mitchell each reached the semifinals of the United States Amateur last month.

"We are certainly excited about getting the season started," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We had some intense and spirited qualifying rounds, and we learned that we have a very deep team. The five guys who are playing have earned their way in, and we are looking forward to seeing how they do in a tournament setting."

Georgia and host Georgia Tech will be joined by Clemson, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Central Florida, Alabama-Birmingham, Georgia State, East Tennessee State and Chattanooga at The Farm. The teams will play 18 holes each day.

Live scoring and tournament information can be found at golfstat.com and thefarmgolfclub.org.
