For the fifth time in the past seven years under Mark Richt, the University of Georgia football team ended the season ranked in the top 10 of the USA Today College Football Coaches Poll.
Following its Capital One Bowl win over Michigan State on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Georgia improved to 10-3. They jumped seven spots in the poll to No. 10 in the final Top 25 rankings, released by the newspaper Friday.
The Bulldogs are 82-22 in eight years under Richt including six seasons with at least 10 wins. Georgia s bowl win over the Spartans sent the senior class out with a 40-12 record. They became the sixth consecutive group to register at least 40 wins in their Bulldog career. Georgia finished No. 13 in the final Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll this season.
Georgia s other top 10 teams under Richt were the 2002 and 2007 squads that finished the season ranked third in the coaches poll while the 2003 and 2004 teams finished sixth. Last season, AP ranked Georgia second in the final poll after going 11-2.
