Wednesday Links (12/2)

Nothing like a rainy, nasty Wednesday to get you in the mood for yet another viewing of "Christmas Vacation." But first, some links...

-- I have a story in today's Telegraph that it's not just the fans wondering what might have been for this year's Bulldogs.

-- I posted 10 key questions facing the Bulldogs as they look to 2010. The Leather Helmet Blog thinks it has the answers.

-- Georgia's coaching staff hit Columbus hard this week including extending an offer to QB Devin Burns, who was the source of the controversy around UGA's ban from Carver over the summer.

-- Congrats to David Pollack for his nod as the fifth-best college football player of the decade, according to Dr. Saturday.

-- Dawgs BUI thinks Mark Richt needs to pull the trigger on coaching decisions and surmises that each day without an announcement is another point in Willie Martinez's favor. I see it the opposite. I have absolutely no knowledge of what's going on behind closed doors right now, but I find it hard to believe Richt leaves his friend to twist in the wind all this time if nothing is going on behind closed doors.

-- Of course, if changes are coming, it hasn't kept Willie Martinez off the recruiting trail ($$$).

-- The Junkyard Blawg won't be too bummed if Georgia ends up in Shreveport, and after the game, I suggest we all meet up and take a bus to New Orleans for New Years. First round of Hurricanes are on me!

-- “(If) a (Georgia) guy is giving you a hard time and you get tired of it, punch him in the face.” Paul Johnson knows how to give a good quote.

-- Get the Picture learns that the Tech recruits are already on the excuse-making bandwagon. Glenn Beck would have a word for this, you know: Indoctrination!

-- Bernie says you shouldn't be too upset with Coach PaJammies, but UGA might want to think about bailing on the "rivalry."

-- Gary Danielson has some obvious points when he looks at the SEC's future, but I don't think it holds up to real scrutiny. The bottom line is that the SEC is so good because the programs care so much about football. The conference has more money, more talent and better coaching than any in the country, so while it will be harder to go undefeated for a school that isn't keeping up, the playing field remains level for those that do. It's a lot like the AL East. Does it take more effort and cost more money for the Yankees and Red Sox to win? Sure. But that hasn't stopped them (and Tampa) from doing it.

-- Tennessee is already gearing up for a date with Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. I know at least one Virginia Tech fan who won't be as excited. (Seriously, why make Tech come to Atlanta a THIRD time? Miami seems like a much better choice. Plus, who wouldn't be excited about the renegade program of the '80s facing off against the renegade program of the 2010s -- or whatever we're going to call this decade?)

-- Steve Spurrier looks to be in line for a contract extension, but Georgia Sports Blog points out that the Ol Ball Coach isn't exactly in illustrious company any more.

-- Tony Barnhart offers some fond memories of Bobby Bowden.

-- This is hilarious video of Florida State's right tackle taking the same approach to blocking that Bowden has taken to coaching much of the past few years.

-- Gary Patterson agreed to a contract extension at TCU, which should be of interest to any of you who care about Notre Dame or who think Dick Bumpas might be a nice fit in Athens.

-- It's the second-to-last episode of "Top Chef" for the season, and here's an interview with the chef my girlfriend would happily kick in the groin if she had the chance. (h/t C-Nati)

-- Paste counts down the 30 best movie fight scenes of all time. It's a quality list, but I can't fathom how "Road House" doesn't make the cut.

-- "Lost" was shooting in L.A. -- a rare departure from the show's normal schedule.

-- OK, I'm officially looking forward to the new "Star Wars" episode of "Family Guy."

-- And this is great news, too... "Greatest American Hero" is now available on Hulu. I don't think I've seen an episode of this show since I was about 7 years old, but I loved it then. Funny side note to this: I remember watching one of those VH1 "Where are they now?" shows a few years ago and they caught up with Joey Scarbury who sung the theme song. Apparently he eventually left the music business to "concentrate on his love of softball." Now that's making good life decisions.

-- And finally, since we were on the subject, I figured I should add this...

Any comment to the Joe Schad, ESPN tweets - CWM not coming back, decision but not announced yet?!?!

Be careful of unconfirmed reporting. Players HAVE NOT been told and Willie was out recruiting THIS MORNING.

Not saying it won't happen, but it doesn't seem like anything has officially happened yet.

Your Paul Johnson link is broken.

And the FSU lineman video is indeed hilarious.

Why did they have to put the "undersized" "high motor" stuff in there about Pollack?

They guy was 6'3" 265 and ran about a 4.6 on top of being super athletic.

He was the definition of a quick-twitch athlete.
