Same Stuff, Different Day

Georgia managed just 18 first-half points against Vandy on Wednesday en route to its fourth straight loss.

A quick aside: I logged on to the AJC's Web site to read Tim Tucker's story on the game. Before reading the story, I quickly perused the quotes, certain that there would be one from Felton somehow explaining that Wednesday night's effort was something to build on. And here it was:

"I'm really proud of the way we defended and rebounded."

Please, Coach, stop sugar coating what is quickly becoming a lost season. At some point, losing is simply unacceptable, no matter how bad you made the other team's offense look or how scrappy your guys played or how close you came to winning without doing it. Take a note from the Willie Martinez fiasco during football season: The biggest complaint most fans have is a lack of accountability. If you're losing but fans know you are working to fix the problems, if they believe the losses hurt you as much as they hurt them, most fans will cut you some slack. But they don't want you to spit in their face and tell them it's raining.

Terrance Woodbury followed that quote with this: "We made a step forward as far as rebounds and wanted to do the same with turnovers, but we got panicky."

Please go back and read each of the last four game stories we've had over at the Telegraph. It's the same quotes.

Is it possible to panic during an event that has happened to you four times in the past 10 days? Oh no! The sun came up! What do we do? For the love of God, what do we do?!?!?!?

OK, perhaps that was a bit too sarcastic. Felton and Woodbury are both good guys and I know both desperately want Georgia to win. But at some point, it's time to get angry, and Georgia passed that point weeks ago.

IYAM (and you didn't), it's not just Favors heading to Tech. It's the fact that UGA is in on so few top players from the state; the Favors decision is just the icing on the cake.

The Felton era has been marked by two things: (1) "We're improving!" (as you so aptly note below and (2) an appaling offense. But it was never this bad.

I think he's done. I think he'll be allowed to finish the season and then be fired as soon as everyone is done showering after the first round SEC tournament loss. And I think this is the right move. I have no beef with Felton as a person, but he seems in over his head at this level.

Please, for the sake of the players, the fans and the University of Georgia mercifully euthanize the Felton-"era."

It is broken. The guy cannot coach, cannot recruit and has never even made the most basic attempt to connect with the fans.

His teams are scared to death on the court and we are the worst road team in the history of athletics.

There is a bit of talent here and a real coach could come in and win 20 games next year and go .500 in the league.

Felton couldn't go .500 in the league with Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. He would inexplicably take them out with 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half, only to bring them in with 1:30 left and the team down by 9.

I have never witnessed such a poor in-game coach. Some folks want to blame the talent, but guess what? He recruited it and good coaches know how to outscheme the opposition to make the most of what they have. That concept is as foreign to Dennis Felton as a salad to Rick Majerus.

I am sure that Dennis Felton is a decent man, although he comes off as a pompous ass most of the time, but his tenure here has been a failure. He has made a very decent living and he should be grateful for that. I know that he came into a terrible situation, but some people use that as a crutch and others rise above it. Unfortunately, Felton chose to do the latter, and for that he must lose his job.

I wish him luck. I am sure that he has some great connections, but his peter-priciple is the Sun Belt or the Atlantic Sun. He is not a big-time coaching talent.

And Pete Herrman is a joke. I am sure he is a great person, but he cannot coach. I could have won with David Robinson. 20+ years later, all Pete Herrman has ever done is win with David Robinson. The regression of the post players at UGA under Herrman's watch has been astonishing.

former, Felton has done the former.

I don't want to throw the players under the bus--I know they are trying--but the team is an embarassment. They are an embarassment.

I think Felton's family got the moving boxes out at about 6:30 Wendesday night .
