Friday Links (2/6)

Greetings from Charlotte, where it's way too cold. I'm en route home for a long weekend to help my niece celebrate her seventh birthday, so there won't be many posts here until next Thursday. I'll update any breaking news and I may end up with an extra post or two to add early next week as well, but just to be safe, you may want to bring in some extra reading material if you're planning to blow off significant portions of your work day. I'll also have another football notes package posted later this morning. Before I leave though, here's a quick batch of links...

-- I know we run pretty heavy on football and hoops here, but I did a story for today's Telegraph on former Central Fellowship track star Jamaal Parker, who has overcome a nasty ankle injury to become one of the SEC's top triple jumpers this year at Georgia. The Dawgs haven't had an SEC triple jump champion since 1991.

-- The AJC says the cost of firing Dennis Felton for UGA was $1.5 million. Of course, if you've seen how bad the Dawgs have played without him, that may be understating things a little.

-- The Telegraph's Jonathan Heeter pans a potential Bobby Knight hire at UGA.

-- Pat Summitt got win No. 1,000 while ending Georgia's four-game winning streak in a game that looked more like one of the men's performances.

-- Bleacher Report gives a positive review to Georgia's 2009 signing class.

-- Scout's Chad Simmons looks at who the potential surprises of the '09 class are. (Subscription required.)

-- Kyle King has some advice for Urban Meyer in the wake of Lane Kiffin's recent comments.

-- If this Albany Times Union writer is correct about where Knowshon ends up in the draft this year, I'll be a happy camper.

-- Get the Picture chimes in with some final thoughts on the Kiffin kerfuffle and also has a good post about two players headed in different directions. The Senator's advice at the end is something too many fans too quickly forget.

-- Georgia Sports Blog examines the upcoming baseball season at Georgia.

-- You might want to make sure you have headphones on if you're watching this at work, but here's Cookie Monster's remake of Jay Z's "99 Problems." (h/t Paul)

-- I'm about three weeks behind on "24" right now, but it sounds like Jack Bauer hasn't lightened up in the age of Obama.

-- Someone at the Albany Herald needs to get Bill Strickland off the roof and show him this Web site, which is looking for the hottest IT guy in America. (NOTE: I know these jokes are only funny to about three people reading this blog, but I'm morally obligated to make them anyway.)

-- And finally... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Strickland gets taken off the roof, then all the Falcos are going to crash. If that happens, sir, how in the world are the exclamation points going to get into the paper?

The cookie monster video was simply glorious. You found that during the Georgia/LSU basketball game the other night, right?

Actually Paul Dehner at the Albany Herald forwarded that to me. On an amusing note about the UGA-LSU hoops game though... We talked to Carlton Thomas on Thursday and he was sporting the "Beat LSU" shirt he got at the basketball game the night before. I guess that's the kind of strong-willed determination you have to have as a 5-7 running back.
