Georgia-LSU Notes

Just a few quick tidbits from the basketball game...

-- This is a pathetically sparse crowd. I've seen bigger at high school games.

-- Pete Herrmann got a sprinkling of applause for his home debut, but hardly anything resembling a ringing endorsement.

-- There's no TV for this game at all. Considering LSU is leading the West, how sad is that?

-- There is a group of shirtless students in the front row of the student section, one with the word "Bob" on his chest, the rest each sporting one letter of K-N-I-G-H-T. And no, the "Bob" kid isn't the fattest one (that honor goes to the 'I' wearing super tight jean shorts -- wait a minute, this isn't Florida!).

-- 8-0 run to end the half pulls Georgia to within four... 35-31.

-- Some stats of note: Georgia has nine turnovers and one assist in the first half; The Dawgs are 1-of-9 from 3. Of course, LSU isn't much better at 2-of-9; Trey Thompkins appears to be past his recent slump. He's 5-of-8 shooting in the half to lead UGA with 10 points; Marcus Thornton leads all scorers with 16; LSU has 15 points off Georgia's nine turnovers; Georgia has 11 second-chance points and leads the overall rebounding battle 18-17; The Dawgs shot 50% from the field in the first half, which has to be some kind of miracle.

-- Final score: 80-62. Story should be up on Macon.com shortly. A few quick second-half notes: LSU started the half with a 26-8 run; Thompkins didn't score in the second half... second time that has happened in the last two weeks; Woodbury had 16 of Georgia's 31 in the second half; LSU had 25 points off turnovers; Thornton and Mitchell combined for 57 points; Georgia shot 26.7 percent in the second half, and it was actually uglier than that. The numbers are inflated by a Woodbury's hot shooting for a stretch once the game was already out of hand; Georgia was 5-of-22 from 3, but again, a couple of those came well after the game was in hand for LSU; Thompkins didn't get to the line once in this game, despite a concerted effort in the first half to get him the ball.

-- I'll have more updates tomorrow, but suffice it to say there was some very negative things said after this game. The chemistry on this team appears to be completely falling apart -- and there wasn't much there to begin with.

I was really hoping people would show up in support tonight....

We've been referenced as a possible sleeping giant in bball, but right now it's probably more like a sleeping platypus...

35-23 LSU with 4 mins to play first half... and the crowd has actually started to fill out a little. Still nothing impressive though, that's for sure.

Also looks like we were prematurely excited about that great first half shooting percentage...

haha... thanks for the visual of the Bob K-N-I-G-H-T students. That is awesome!

I'm listening to the game on WSB radio. Dawgs down by 16 with less than 4 min to play :(

This is exactly why I questioned a mid-season firing of felton. He definitely needed to be let go, but why in the middle of the season. This team is getting worse.

It can't help us get a jump on recruiting a new coach when all of the coaches we are interested in are not available for interviews until after the season is over.

I really hate this for our players. They deserve better.

Anon 2:54, while I love and support our players, I think they are lucky to be playing in a major conference program.

We would have lost this game with Felton too. You're kidding yourself if you think it would have been any different.
