McGarity officially applies

It shouldn’t surprise a soul that Greg McGarity, the Florida associate athletics director, has applied for the A.D. job at Georgia, his alma mater. He confirmed that to be the case on Thursday.

"I'm just going through the process," McGarity said when reached at home Thursday night.

Understandably, that was about as much as he wanted to say.

McGarity's application was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which obtained the names of 49 applications through an Open Records Act request. (Obviously from a competitor’s standpoint it’s not easy to write that. But beyond it being my fourth day, you also have to give credit where it’s due.)

McGarity, also an Athens native, wrote in a cover letter to Georgia’s administration that he looked “forward to having the opportunity to compete for this position.”
