Some more notes from Mark Richt after Thursday’s practice:
- Freshman offensive lineman Kenariouos Gates sat out Thursday’s practice with cramps, which he incurred at the end of Wednesday’s practice.
- Richt had more praise for the Ogletree brothers, or the two “Trees” as Richt called them. Of Alec, a safety, Richt said you could see had a sense of balance, and “when to strike” from the safety position. Alexander Ogletree is at fullback. Richt called him a “quick study.”
“They’re kind of how they’ve been advertised,” Richt said. “Just good, hard-nosed football players.”
- Freshman cornerback Derek Owens has looked good so far, and unafraid.
“He’s still got a lot to learn and is vulnerable to getting beat, because he’s aggressive,” Richt said.
- No players have switched positions yet. The staff is trying to get everything installed, then could make some moves if they see fit.
- Thursday was the hottest day of a hot week, and it showed near the end of practice.
“The heat jumped on us a bit today,” Richt said, going on to say that a few guys appeared to be giving in to the weather near the end of practice.
“But it’s tough to maintain the tempo and energy that we’ve had every day to this point, especially in this heat,” Richt said.
