Tidbits from the assistants

After practice today, we had a chance to speak to every Georgia coach not named Richt or Searels. I'll have a couple stories in tomorrow's paper, but here are some quick notes and impressions:

- Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo wasn't quite as enamored with QB Aaron Murray's performance in Tuesday's scrimmage.

"A little disappointed," Bobo said, focusing on the interception Murray threw in the red zone, which Bobo called "bonheaded."

But Murray followed it up with a good practice today, the coach added.

- As for the defense, the scrimmage didn't seem to move the story much, judging by coordinator Todd Grantham's comments. Grantham said he was pleased with how the team was continuing along, and didn't appear too high or too low on any aspect of the defense's performance.

"We're gonna be a work in progress. But the players are buying into it," Grantham said.

- Defensive players who are standing out, according to Grantham, include linebackers Justin Houston, Darryl Gamble and Cornelius Washington.

- Secondary coach Scott Lakatos said he knew as much as the media about cornerback Branden Smith's academic status. In the meantime, they're proceeding to give looks to guys like Jordan Love and Sanders Cummings, who both earned praise from Lakatos and Grantham.

- Safety Bacarri Rambo was held out of the scrimmage after suffering a stinger. He was in a green non-contact jersey for Wednesday's practice.

- Incidentally, there were 122 plays in the scrimmage, according to Grantham.

- Running backs coach Bryan McClendon said Washaun Ealey and Caleb King basically remain neck-and-neck, with Carlton Thomas right behind them. Senior Fred Munzenmaier has been getting more reps lately, perhaps drawing even with Ken Malcome, a freshman.

And as I said, more in the papers tomorrow.

Coach "Searals"? Really? That's not even close enough to blame on a typo. Come on, man. Step up your game.

Anon 7:56, are you joking? Go post your filth on the ajc. This blog is for thoughtful comments. Are you an English professor or something? Douche.

not a professor; just a fan hoping the beat writer can get the coaches' names right.
