Call for the mailbag

So just like that, it snowed … again?! Well not that much, basically a dusting. But enough that those of us who planned on jogging off the ice cream we treated ourselves to last night will now have to schlep to the gym again. And we hate the treadmill.

Seriously, didn't the groundhog decree that winter was over? What's the deal here? (Archie, pictured above, isn't quite sure what to make of it either.)

In any event, it’s been a bit since we had a mailbag, so let’s do it. Send in any questions you may have: About the football offseason, the basketball team’s struggles, a good movie you may have seen (“The King’s Speech” was good), relationship advice, or help with your taxes.

Fire away below in the comment section, or send me an e-mail (semerson@macon.com). I'll post the answers later today - barring any breaking news (please no more) - once we get enough questions.

So even though we recruited well with the exception of a couple guys it will still take a season to get the new guys in productive form. Will Richt be able to muster enough wins next season to give himself one more year to get to the production of the new infusion of talent? And i get the feeling that Ealy and CMR are not really buddies right now, anyone else feel a RB transfer announcment coming especially since CMR public comments about Crowell? OH yeah!...baseball starts in a few weeks!

How many of the OL recruits (and which ones) do you see being redshirted? Some of their weights appear small-ish.

and...

Anyone hedging (pun intended) on who the new LB coach might be?

I think to get to the tourney, the basket ball team needs to bring back 'The Peanut Butter Kid'. What do you think?

If you don't know who that is: http://deadspin.com/#!5455802/the-ballad-of-peanut-butter-kid-a-firsthand-account

It appears to me that UGA, in general, doesn't know how to win. Football team has digressed over the last several years, basketball team (even though we all know is better) can't seem to win a game that counts, and it's anybodies guess how the baseball team will do. Gymnastics is down same with tennis team. Whats up? Does it start with recruiting winners or 5-stars (those aren't neccessarily synonyous)or is it coaching? Does McGarity feel as I do or not?

Is that a blue and orange bandana on Archie? Seriously? My dog is that color and looks great with a bright red collar (or bandana). May have to report you to PETA!

Seth,

Have you had the pleasure of taking down a k-bob and fries from Keba Spitfire Grill on the East side?

What are your favorite Athens eateries?

I was surprised when I initially read the story of Richt lining up a formation of 10 guys for Crowell and saying IC can be the RB. I was curious if this was actually the offensive starters really out there and how they reacted to such a strange set-up. I would think it would go against the innate "team mentality" to sell out your current RB like that.

What position do you see as being the weakest on the basketball team whether it be talent, depth or both?
How about the opposing teams propensity for driving to the basket which was clearly evident against Xavier with the ability of the guard to continually split the double team. Does that boil down to scheme, effort or talent? It just seems that we are weak defending the pick and roll.

Thanks

If Ealy's suspension stems from missing a punishment run and strength staff has the most contact with players during this part of the offseason, do you get the feeling that this is Coach T cracking down and upping accountability? Also, I don’t follow twitter but after Coach T told players to lay off complaining about the workouts has the chatter stopped and do you think he can help instill a talk less and do more attitude in the players that seems to be lacking?

Which players are shaping up as the leaders for next year's team? I hope someone besides Coach T is taking names in the weight room.

Anon 12:01 - First of all, CMR didn't tell IC the job was his...he asked if he (IC) could see himself there. Big difference. And as for Ealey, didn't he sell out his teamates by driving without a license and getting suspended multiple times?

Seth - since the NT is shaping up as perhaps the most talked about position on the team, who besides Jenkins will push for playing time? Geathers? Has Mike Thornton made any progress? Anderson?

Seth,

Do you think Will Friend will flip-flop the o-line until the 5th game trying to find the best unit, or will he be able to find the best unit heading into the season? Has Coach Friend made a statement on that?

Have you spoken to Coach Fox about the basketball team's latest struggles and if so has he articulated anything worth mentioning beyond the typical, perfunctory answer?

In other words, has CMF indicated his displeasure with our play of late? Losing most all of the close important games? Lack of aggressiveness by Leslie? Inconsistency of most all players? Poor ball handling and passing? Etc?
