Warren Belin's departure seemingly opened up a spot for an inside linebackers coach. But an ad placed on the Georgia job site instead advertises for a defensive ends coach.
This position serves as Assistant Coach in the area of Defensive Ends. Responsibilities include recruiting talented athletes to play the sport of football as well as guiding and encouraging student-athletes toward graduation at the University of Georgia.
So what's the deal?
I asked athletics director Greg McGarity about it a few minutes ago, and he didn't seem to think it was a big deal. The ad was placed by human resources through the athletics department, which said just to advertise for a defensive assistant coach.
So it's quite possible that somewhere along the way "defensive" was shortened to DE. Or it's possible that Georgia will return to having Rodney Garner coach defensive tackles, Todd Grantham coaches all the linebackers, or some other combination. Honestly, it's not clear.
At this point, I'm not sure I'd look too much into it.
