Tuesday Links (3/24)

After two days off, Georgia hits the practice field again this afternoon. I'll be there to cover it, and I'll have practice notes afterward. In the meantime, I have a bunch of stuff on my plate this morning, so let's get right to the links...

-- I have a story in today's Telegraph on what life is like for recruits who have signed by have yet to arrive at Georgia. And if you scroll down past this post, you'll also find plenty of extras from the story, too.

-- Courtesy of the Senator, Tony Barnhart has a story up today looking at SEC quarterback battles and seems none too confident that Joe Cox is the man for the long haul this season. That, of course, is the same thing Doc Saturday wondered about last week . Far be it from me to question two football writers I greatly respect, but as I wrote in my analysis last week, I just don't see it. Look, Logan Gray is a good kid with some real talent, but he missed too much time last year to be ready (and as Blutarski points out, he doesn't even rank in Barnhart's possibilities). Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger both have bright futures, but both are true freshmen, and Mark Richt isn't going to go that route unless he has to. Moreover, Murray has really struggled so far this spring (not that it's not expected, but just to say that he's not out there walking on water). The bottom line is, Cox isn't Joe Tereshinski, and as talented as Murray might be, he's not Matthew Stafford. I think at least three of Georgia's QBs need to see some significant playing time in 2009 in order to have someone ready for 2010, but I will be stunned -- STUNNED -- if Cox isn't still the starter against Georgia Tech.

-- Troy Aikman is helping with the sales pitch for Matthew Stafford in Detroit.

-- One of the best writers covering sports today, Joe Posnanski, jots down a few thousand words on his all-time favorite college football player, Herschel Walker. If you enjoy Georgia history, this is an absolute must-read.

-- As fans and journalists, I think it's easy to get caught up in wins and losses and stats, and we tend to forget just how much the players care, how hard they work or how much they sacrifice in order to keep us entertained on Saturdays. Jeff Owens' latest blog post serves as a fantastic reminder.

-- Cousin Walter thinks Paul Johnson might be getting a little ahead of himself when he says he wants to open up Georgia Tech's offense more.

-- Remember last year when Florida's players held a grudge against Georgia all offseason then thumped the Bulldogs 49-10? Well, look out Lane Kiffin.

-- Every Day Should Be Saturday's Spring Practice notes are chock full of great info even if most of it isn't true.

-- Speaking of not letting the truth get in the way of a good story, we can add yet another name to the hoops coach rumor mill, but Mike Anderson isn't going to fuel the fire.

-- Another big name is making strong statements that he's not going anywhere (h/t GSB).

-- And here's another name: A south Florida TV station is reporting that Georgia is very interested in Frank Haith from Miami. Also, this guy's blog picture is way too gaudy. He needs to be more like Michael Carvell... tasteful and unassuming.

-- The Wall Street Journal has an interesting piece on how the new-fangled suits swimmers wear are having a big impact at the college level, and the story includes some input from Georgia assistant Jerry Chandler.

-- 960 the Ref chats with baseball coach Dave Perno about the No. 1-ranked Diamond Dogs.

-- The Athens Banner-Herald says that parking near Foley Field can be a dangerous decision . I was shocked to learn the story was about foul balls rather than tow trucks.

-- This story out of Lakeland, Fla. cannot be good for the poor kid's social life. I mean, with the food they serve in school cafeterias these days, who can blame him? (h/t Brett)

-- And this week's sign that I'll be out of a job soon comes from Ann Arbor, where the paper there is shutting down.

-- And finally, a good time killer for this afternoon, Entertainment Weekly looks at 26 TV shows that were cancelled too soon.

When the central Georgia farmers start browsing for pickups online you should start worrying about your job. As log as they compare dealer prices by looking at the ads i the paper you are safe ;-}
