Afternoon Practice Report

Mark Richt called this afternoon "the shortest scrimmage in the history of Georgia."

The reason: About 25 percent of the team couldn't practice.

This morning, I counted more than 20 green jerseys.

This afternoon, Justin Houston got back to practice (getting two sacks!) but Caleb King, Blair Walsh and Dannell Ellerbe were added to the list of those sitting out.

Some notes from this afternoon's practice:

-- Walsh was rested today after two long kicking drills the past two days. Richt said he was a bit "leg weary" but appears the clear leader for field goals and PATs. Richt did say yesterday kickoff duties were still up in the air.

-- King was just rested for this afternoon's scrimmage, no injury was mentioned. Moreno played sparingly. Richard Samuel had another impressive day.

-- Kiante Tripp worked at left tackle with Josh Davis moving over to right tackle. Richt again talked about how well Cordy Glenn was playing, but said he would almost certainly remain at right guard for now. Similarly, Richt said he liked Vince Vance at guard and, although moving him to tackle is a possibility, he's probably better where he is. Sounds to me like Tripp will probably play Week 1 at LT and then Clint Boling will move into that spot after his suspension. Just a guess, but it looks like it's lining up that way. Richt said he'd like to have a final decision made by the time they scrimmage Georgia Southern on Wednesday.

-- Richt said he was close to a decision on the status of suspended players Donavon Baldwin and Jeff Hensen. He said he had not spoken to either player and no decision was etched in stone, but a final verdict would come soon.

STATS FROM TODAY'S SCRIMMAGE:

Rushing: Munzenmaier 10-16, Samuel 6-51, Thomas 4-7, Jackson 3-13

Passing: Stafford 10-11-112 2 TDs, Gray 4-5-29, Cox 5-9-34 1 INT

Receiving: Moreno 1-12, Durham 4-30, Troupe 2-25 1TD, Chandler 2-32 1 TD, Samuel 2-23, Jackson 2-20, Harris 1-15.

Defense (tackles): Dent 6, Gamble 5, White 5, Commings 4, Brown 4 and a PBU, Houston 3 and 2 sacks, Dowtin 3, Rambo 3, Cuff 3, Owens 3.

You mentioned that the team will "scrimmage Georgia Southern on Wednesday?" What is this all about? Sorry if I've missed something.

Not sure exactly -- just going by Richt quote "practice game against Georgia Southern on Wednesday. Run-through against scout team maybe? I'll check tomorrow.

I'm sure he just means the scout team will pose as Southern during the scrimmage. Mimicking their sets and whatnot.

Side note: You are doing a really good job, Hale. A lot of us were upset when Ching left us, but you are about to make me forget him.

Keep it up!

Can't believe no one has commented on this...

Stafford 10-11-112 2 TDs

Keep it up, Matthew!

Hey this is the original anonymous who asked about the Georgia Southern scrimmage thing. First off, I assumed that meant a scrimmage against the scout team... maybe simulating the GSU game? Please let us know if there's anything stranger going on. :)

Second, to echo mdr1013, your work is really appreciated Hale. This stuff is truly a must read for everyday fans! Thanks!

Ditto on the fine job you're doing, Mr. Hale. I appreciate your sense of humor in your posts as well.
