The Georgia wide receiver corps has already taken some big hits in the first few days of practice.
Wide receiver Israel Troupe sustained a hyper-extended elbow, sprained right wrist and sprained right shoulder Wednesday, while receivers Walter Hill and Michael Moore also suffered injuries.
Hill broke his right hand and will require six weeks of rehabilitation. Richt said he hoped Hill may be back sooner for special teams work, however.
"I m thinking he s got to go at least three weeks and maybe we can club him up," Richt said. "He might have trouble catching, but at least he can play and be protected. Maybe he can do some special team work for us with his hand clubbed."
Moore had a slightly pulled hamstring, Richt said, but is not expected to miss significant time.
"We always like to bring a good number of receivers into camp," Richt said. "Normally we like to run three groups in our pass skeleton, but we had to reduce it to two."
Defensive lineman Jeremy Longo also broke his right hand, and quarterback Joe Cox sat out a second straight day of practice. Cox will likely not return to throwing until Monday, Richt said.
"I told coach Bobo, Joe will suck it up and throw, but if he needs to rest a few days, let s rest him now rather than a week before the game," Richt said. We re just being cautious.
