I'll have more on this after practice, when I speak to Dewberry, but here's the basics...
Georgia linebacker Darius Dewberry will be suspended for two games for his involvement in damaging property at St. Mary s hospital in Athens following a bar fight downtown.
Dewberry, who attended Peach County high in Fort Valley, admitted his role in damaging property at the hospital to head coach Mark Richt last weekend. The incident occurred after teammate Donavon Baldwin was taken to St. Mary s for treatment after he was injured in a bar fight outside The Library night club in downtown Athens.
(Dewberry) freely admitted to me that he did it, Richt said. I do know that he s very remorseful for what he did. He s going to pay a price.
That price will also include extra morning workouts, counseling, 20 hours of community service and full restitution for the damage done, Richt said.
Once the damage is totally assessed, he s going to have to repay that, and he s going to repay it, Richt said. He ll also begin working off his debt by getting a job and earning as much as he can up until school starts. The first two Saturdays that we re playing football, he ll be working a job those days, too, to earn money to pay for the damage.
Dewberry is the sixth player suspended by Richt this offseason, including Baldwin and snapper Jeff Henson, who were both suspended indefinitely for incidents that occurred over the weekend.
Dewberry started five games in 2007, finishing with 24 tackles. He will be eligible to return to the team for its Sept. 13 game at South Carolina.
