Friday Links

By the end of today, I'll be an official Athens resident. Needless to say, I'm excited. Anyone in town who wants to grab a beer and talk football, let me know. (PS -- you're buying.)

In the meantime, here are some links to get you through the next eight hours 'til the weekend...

Friends of the Program asks a simple question: Are you smarter than an SEC official?

ESPN's Chris Low wants to know just how good Georgia QB Matt Stafford really is. UGA fans ought to hope that Low isn't the only person this season to confuse the numbers with the real production.

Check out Mark Richt chatting with a Chattanooga news station before the recent Bulldog Club meeting there.

The Gainesville Sun ranks Knowshon Moreno as the SEC's second best player . Wanna take a shot in the dark at who No. 1 will be?

The AJC's Mark Bradley blogs that Georgia should be taking Tech seriously this year. I don't argue, though I think it's great that DawgBone.net referred to it as "nerd optimism."

Also from the AJC, apparently the Dolphins are working out former Georgia QB Quincy Carter . Carter most recently spent time in the AFL, where he battled a former South Georgia Wildcat, D. Bryant, for the starting job. I find it hard to believe even Miami is this desperate, but I suppose everyone deserves a second chance.

And finally, I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm curious your thoughts: What's more pathetic -- Brett Favre insisting he gets to play for one of his team's arch rivals or Brett Favre admitting he'll stay retired for the right price?

Always good stuff to read Dave.

Brett Favre admitting he'll stay retired for the right price is by far the more pathetic. Playing for your rival though seemingly a bit traitorous can still be rationalized as just wanting to play football. And not to difficult to envision given the number of times most players hop around.

Agreeing to be bought out reeks of ransom.

Crane is dead on....Favre even considering the 20-25 million pay-off to "stay quit" (Mississippi talk for Wrangler jeans don't pay like you'd think they would). Given one hour, you could probably make a list of 100 guys that left their team for a rival...if the Pack wants to go into the season with Glass Joe instead of Ironman, so be it...but be warned: Who will throw key interceptions and choke away playoff games if you don't let him back on the tundra???
